Plant-based Growth Factors
ORF Genetics, based in Iceland, is a pioneering biotechnology company specializing in the production of high-quality, plant-based recombinant proteins, particularly growth factors, using genetically engineered barley plants. This has resulted in an extensive portfolio of recombinant proteins for stem cell technology research, skincare, biopharma, and the cultured meat market.
''Our mission is to remove the biggest roadblock cell-cultured meat producers are currently facing, to feed the world’s growing demand for cruelty-free, climate-friendly meat, by lowering the cost of growth factors in their production.''
Cost-effective growth factor production
The first step in the process is to take out a minimal amount of stem cells of the animal of choice. Then, cell differentiation and bioengineering of the plant to produce the growth factor in the seed, select those with the highest level of growth factor production, multiply them and purify the seeds with growth factor.
All of them receive in-house testing before being delivered to users.
Animal-Free Products
All growth factors produced are free from animal components, reducing ethical concerns and the risk of contaminants such as endotoxins, viruses, and prions.
