Does your filter tip suck at aerosols?

Filter tips mounted in air-displacement pipettes are used to prevent potential contamination of the pipette cones by e.g. DNA fragments.

The more effective the filter, the lower the risk of contamination. This is of utmost importance for preventing false-positive results, especially in highly sensitive PCR experiments.

Double-stranded DNA, the main product of PCR, is very long lived. It therefore seems obvious that pipetting of DNA or PCR product is one of the most insecure steps in the PCR procedure. Cross-contamination occurs if incorrect pipetting causes splashes or drips. Yet even if pipettes are handled properly, aerosols can still be generated, containing DNA molecules which can thus contaminate the pipette and then subsequent different batches. This demands increasing efforts to reduce penetration of contaminants by means of filter tips. Filter tips mounted in air-displacement pipettes are used to prevent potential contamination of the pipette cones by e.g. DNA fragments. The more effective the filter, the less the risk of contamination. This is of utmost importance for preventing false-positive results, especially in highly sensitive PCR experiments. The filter in all TipOne® filter tips is made of ultra-pure, high-density polyethylene that protects against aerosol cross-contamination without trapping your valuable samples.
